Come Celebrate Stone Salad 2021

(an Ethical Humanist Harvest Festival)

Stone Salad (or sometimes Stone Soup) is a traditional harvest festival celebration that is shared by Ethical Societies across the country.

NoVES Members and Friends will join together to make a community salad based on the old folk tale Stone Soup.  This year especially, it is a wonderful opportunity to visit with old friends and new friends as well.

You are invited to come and join us for a "Stone Salad" made from contributions from those in attendance.

Everyone will bring up their contributions to the front table and several enormous bowls of salad will be made.  Masks must be worn when bringing up salad items and when serving ourselves lunch.  We also ask that social distance be maintained while contributing to the salads and when it is time to fill our plates.

Tables will be distanced from each other. Waving at others is highly encouraged.

We are asking that families sit together; we will maintain as much social distance as possible, but vaccinated members may choose to sit with 2 or three other vaccinated people.

We are asking each family/couple to bring at least two things to add to our salads (see below for recommended items) and the additional items requested by last name.

Cash donations will be collected and given to Food for Others in Virginia and a food bank in Maryland.

Then we all have lunch. There will be several salad bowls filled with many different items. We will keep allergens (nuts, dairy, wheat) separate from the main salads; those who want them can add them in when getting lunch.

There will be bread, desserts and drinks. For kids (and adults) who don’t want salad there will be peanut butter and cheese for making sandwiches.

If you can come at 10:30 or a little after to help set up tables, it would be most appreciated.

Please bring  2of the following salad items, based on the first letter of your last name:

A-Q, please bring salad add-ins such as vegetables of all sorts: avocado, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, beans, nuts, celery, bell peppers, pasta,  etc. NO MEAT, PLEASE.

R-Z please bring washed and chopped/torn salad greens, including lettuce, kale, other salad blends.

In addition to salad items please bring additional items based on the first letter of your last name:

A-F please bring breads and spreads.

F-R please bring desserts.

S-Z please bring salad dressings.
